How to Survive Poly

As you all know, my first year in Ngee Ann has ended and in another month or so, year 2 will begin. I've decided to make a blog post to 'guide' those enrolling/enrolled into a Poly.

This is purely based on my experience so if it doesn't work out for you, don't blame me ah!

1. SELF-DISCIPLINE
I bet many people will say this too.
But seriously, if you want to do well, you got to set your priorities right. DO NOT do last minute work for projects and assignments that have high percentages (10-20% is considered high already!!!).

GPA system can kill. If you do not have self-discipline and consistency, 1 semester is enough to make you cry, have depression and probably submit the withdrawal form.

2. PICK THE RIGHT FRIENDS
When you begin a new phase of life in a completely new environment, friends are very important
They can unleash your potential or pull you down. Be more friendly and try to get to know everybody first before deciding who are the ones that you can really work with.

Remember, there will always be people that:
  • Announce to the world that they didn't study at all, have given up or confirm fail and still come back with good grades. Very normal one, y'all wait and see.
  • 'Encourage' you to slack. "Hack care la" "Why study so hard" "Why so stress?"
  • Do nothing for group project and not feel guilty at all (FUCKING HATE THIS TYPE).
  • Ask to see your assignment for

Once you identified such people, please, don't get influenced by them. JUST DO YOUR OWN THING. Best is if you can knock some sense into them first.

 3. GOOD RELATIONSHIPS WITH LECTURERS
Well, this is actually very important.
Unlike O or A levels, your lecturers are the ones marking and grading for all your the papers, projects and assignments. If you make their lives difficult, they can make yours difficult too.

Having good relationships with lecturers may also give you certain priorities and privileges
(urm, think clean)

3 simple steps from yours truly which hopefully can help you cope with your Poly life. Feel free to ask me any questions on my Formspring and I'll do my best in answering them :)

Oh ya!
4. ALWAYS ATTEND LAST LECTURE BEFORE PAPERS
(you will thank me for this :P)

GOODBYE! XX
